Kaizen Safety
“Kaizen a Japanese business philosophy of continuous improvement”
What does Kaizen mean?
Kaizen is the Japanese word for “change for the better” or “improvement”. It has been practised in Japanese business for over 60 years and encompasses the idea of continuous improvement, striving to make processes, procedures, and work environments safer.
Kaizen is central to any robust format of incident investigation. It looks at the individual processes as well as the bigger picture of possibility and opportunity. Kaizen is about being committed to more than just ticking boxes and filing away an incident report once it’s finished. With kaizen, nothing really ever finishes. There is always more change and therefore, continuous improvement.
At the heart of Kaizen is the Plan Do Check Act (PDCA) Cycle. PDCA is an improvement cycle based on the scientific method of proposing a change in a process, implementing the change, measuring the results, and taking appropriate action.
Kaizen Safety is proud to form part of The Lighthouse Alliance, alongside Elite Consult and HR Alchemy. Together we bring multi-disciplinary expertise to support all areas of recruitment, human resources and health and safety management within the maritime and shipping industries.
